Florida Focus - Current Students

Spring 2017

Amber is a returning member of the Florida Focus team. She is a graduating senior at USF who bleeds green and gold. She has also been heavily involved as a member of the USF Sundolls, Diamond Dolls, Goal Girls, Tridelta Sorority, Sweetheart of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and radio host on Bulls Radio. She is currently a professional AFL cheerleader for the Tampa Bay Storm and a performer at Busch Gardens and Adventure Island theme parks. Amber loves to be on camera, on mic, on the field and on stage. She is excited to move on from school and into a job she can be just as passionate about.

Alex Low is a senior at the University of South Florida, majoring in mass communications with a concentration in telecom production. Alex chose to take Florida Focus to increase her in-studio production skills. She specifically aspires to grow in her technical directing, floor managing, and directing abilities. Before Alex was interested in production, she was a pre-professional dancer.

Jillian Olsen is a senior at the University of South Florida double majoring in Mass Communications and Communication with a concentration in Culture and Media. In addition to working with Florida Focus, Jillian also writes, edits, and anchors her own news show "News In 90 With Jillian Olsen" for the university. Her goal is to work as a host for a daytime/talk show, before eventually heading up her own personal talk show.

Neena Pacholke is in her final semester as a USF Bull and will be graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and minoring in Leadership Studies. Her ultimate dream job is to be a sports sideline reporter; focusing her time here on the news side. She took Florida Focus because she saw it as an opportunity to gain more experience on both the news and production side as well as to add an amazing thing to her resume! She played women's basketball for the USF Women's Basketball team freshman through junior year.

Rodrick Weaver is a senior at USF. Weaver is set to graduate in the spring of 2017 with a bachelors in telecommunication and production. Upon graduating he hopes to work in the radio industry, he currently has a show on USF’s Bulls Radio. Weaver has interned at CBS Radio as a programming and production intern. Where he learned the basic editing skills of Adobe Audition and Audio Vault.

Zach is a Junior at USF and is majoring in Mass Communications with a focus in Broadcast News. After graduation, he hopes to become a field reporter with a small market news station. In pursuit of this goal, he has interned with Stuart Magazine, a small town magazine featuring fashion, dining, and community events. He has also interned with the Public Relations Department for the Miami Beach Bowl. Zach is taking Florida Focus because he wants to gain some more experience in front of (and behind) the camera as well as with working in a professional news setting.

Ciara Cummings is a senior studying Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast News. She has completed five internships within her academic career, her current one being WFLA NEWS Channel 8. Ciara plans to start off as a local news reporter with hopes of landing an anchor seat in a top media market.The ultimate goal for her is to change lives, change her local community and change the world through exceptional journalism.

Brittany Rossow is a senior majoring in TV News. Once graduated, Brittany hopes to move to New York City and pursue a career in News and Entertainment. While in Florida Focus, Brittany hopes to get experience in anchoring as well as learning to put all elements of a news show together. This past summer, Brittany completed an internship with the WFLA morning show, Daytime.

Domonique Whitehurst is a Senior Mass Communications major concentrating in Broadcast News. Being able to portray new worthy information, specifically sports, had been her drive while attending USF. Whitehurst has interned with a local ESPN radio station in her hometown, Pensacola FL. and currently an intern for USF Athletics’ production called BullsVision. Ultimately after graduation Domonique has the hopes building her career within world of sports media. Florida Focus can afford her numerous opportunities to gain real life experiences of a functioning new cast.

Yinian is a senior studying Broadcast Production and Programming. She is originally from mainland China, and is forward to experiencing various job positions and enhancing her professional ability in Florida Focus. She hopes to pursue a video production career after graduation.

Kendall is a Mass Communications student in the News track. She will be graduating in July, and she plans on earning her Master's degree afterwards. She has had three internships with News Channel 8, and she loves working in television. Outside of broadcasting, she enjoys shopping, spending time with her family and traveling.

Kayla Ewertz is in her third year at USF. She's studying Telecom Production and dreams of being a producer for Comedy Central or TBS. Kayla is fascinated by the production side of television and says Electronic Field Production is her favorite class. She's excited to be a part of the Florida Focus team and looks forward to all her projects this semester.

Estefania is a senior student-athlete majoring in mass communications with a concentration in broadcasting, production, and programming. She aspires to be the best at whatever she chooses to do in the future, give back to the community, and look forward to winning her first Emmy. Estefania is currently an intern for Diamond Views Studios where she hopes to learn new skills and perfect the ones she already has.

Emily Giron is a junior Mass Communications major with a concentration in broadcasting. She hopes to be an executive producer for film and television. Since that is her end goal she is more focused on the production side of broadcasting. She took Florida Focus to get more experience and to learn new skills that could help her be more versatile. She hopes to learn how to be a producer/director in this class.

Deprina was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and is currently a senior at the University of South Florida. She a member of the National Association of Black Journalist and the local Tampa Bay chapter. Her major is Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Programming and Production and a certificate in Visual Communications. She is currently a host of two shows on Bulls radio. In the Future she hopes to host a national radio show and produce for talk shows.

Marlesia Jones is a senior at the University of South Florida. Her major is Mass Communication with a concentration of Telecommunication News. After graduation in fall 2017, Marlesia will go on to become a multimedia journalist and reporter. She expects to travel in order to find a good paying position. Marlesia interned at FOX 13 News fall 2016 where she learned to pitch stories, set up interviews, report, operate cameras, create and edit news stories, and write up web stories. In doing the internship at FOX 13, she was able to narrow down her decision in becoming an MMJ.
